Sound Fabrics: Dirty Projectors & David Byrne – Knotty Pine
Experience has taught us that if something involves David Byrne, it can’t be bad.
At the very end of the year we chose for you “Knotty Pine”, one of the most remarkable songs of 2009. It’s an upshot of the cooperation between the past and the future, the old and the new, but what’s most important – between a group of brilliant artists.
David Byrne is the former frontman and founding member of supergroup Talking Heads. He has recently been involved in a couple of music and artistic projects, released an album with Brian Eno and recorded songs with Fatboy Slim, Dizzee Rascall and N.A.S.A.
Dirty Projectors are an experimental rock and indie band based in Brooklyn, until 2009 known from refreshing and covering songs by other artists. In 2009, they released “Bitte Orca” which was immediately considered one of the best album of the year.
“Knotty Pine” is an opener of the this year’s album “Dark Was the Night”, the 20th compilation release for The Red Hot Organisation (a charity aiming to raise awareness concerning HIV and AIDS), produced by Aaron and Bryce Dessner from The National. On the compilation we can find such artists as Arcade Fire, Beirut, Cat Power or The New Pornographers.
